Unknown (North African, 2nd century)

Early Church (pre-Nicene) · Ante-Nicene

The Passio Sanctorum Scillitanorum is the earliest surviving document of Latin Christianity and the oldest record of Christian martyrdom in North Africa. Its author is unknown; the text appears to be a near-contemporary account of the trial, likely drawn from official court records. The twelve Scillitan martyrs were tried before the proconsul Saturninus at Carthage on 17 July 180 AD and executed the same day. Their names are known; their recorder is not.
